In a demonstration of the warm relations between two historic royal families, His Royal Highness Crown Prince Davit Bagrationi Mukhranbatoni of Georgia and His Royal Highness Prince Emanuele Filiberto of Savoy, Duke of Savoy and Prince of Venice, participated in an official exchange of honours during a private ceremony held at the Pontifical Lateran University in Rome, an extraterritorial property of the Holy See.
As part of the protocol exchange, His Royal Highness Prince Emanuele Filiberto was invested with the Grand Collar of the Order of the Eagle of Georgia and the Seamless Tunic of Our Lord Jesus Christ, one of the highest distinctions of the Royal House of Georgia. The Order represents the defence of Christianity and the ancient legacy of Georgia’s monarchical traditions.
In return, His Royal Highness Crown Prince Davit was invested as a Knight Grand Cross of the Order of Saints Maurice and Lazarus, one of the oldest dynastic orders of the Royal House of Savoy, founded in 1572. The Order represents Christian chivalric values and a longstanding commitment to humanitarian service.
The protocol ceremony was also attended by Johannes Theo Niederhauser, Grand Chancellor of the Dynastic Orders of the Royal House of Savoy; Nicolas Gagnebin, Grand Treasurer; the Reverend Monsignor Paolo de Nicolo, Grand Prior; Professor Alberto Bochicchio, Grand Master of Ceremonies of the Royal House of Savoy; and His Illustriousness Prince David Grabovac, Special Envoy of His Royal Highness Crown Prince Davit.
The reciprocal exchange marked the renewal and strengthening of the historic relations between the Royal House of Savoy and the Royal House of Georgia. It reflected a shared desire to deepen the relationship between the two Houses and to reaffirm their commitment to common values and traditions.
The event also recalled the legacy of His Majesty King Umberto II of Italy, who had previously received the Order of the Eagle of Georgia, further illustrating the historic connection between the two royal families.
