On 6 July in Madrid, Kingdom of Spain, His Royal Highness Crown Prince Davit of Georgia received the prestigious Mayte Spínola Gold Medal for Oenology in recognition of a unique project in Georgia that began in 2018.
The project involves constructing the Prince of Mukhrani Vineyards and Winery on the ancestral Mukhrani estate, reviving a family winemaking tradition after nearly 200 years.
With more than 500 grape varieties and an 8,000-year history of winemaking, Georgia is considered the cradle of wine. Archaeologists have traced the world’s earliest known winemaking to the peoples of the South Caucasus around 6000 BC.
