A memorial Mass was said for the eternal repose of the soul of Doña María de las Mercedes de Zornoza y Ponce de León, Princess Bagration of Mukhrani and Georgia from 1968 to 1978, who died in Madrid, Spain, on 17 March 2020. She was the mother of His Royal Highness Crown Prince Davit, Head of the Royal House of Georgia; H.R.H. Prince Irakly Bagration of Mukhrani and Georgia; and H.R.H. Princess María Bagration of Mukhrani and Georgia.
The Princess was born in Madrid, Spain, on 2 August 1942. She was the daughter of Don José de Zornoza and Doña María de los Dolores Ponce de León y Puicercus.
The solemn funeral for the eternal repose of María de las Mercedes de Zornoza y Ponce de León took place in the Royal Family Pantheon within Svetitskhoveli Cathedral, in Mtskheta, the former capital of the Kingdom of Georgia.
A further funeral was planned in Madrid, capital of the Kingdom of Spain, once the circumstances caused by the pandemic had passed.
