It is with great sadness that I receive the news of the passing of His Holiness Irinej, Archbishop of Peć, Metropolitan of Belgrade and Karlovci, and Serbian Patriarch. I had the pleasure of meeting him in person for the first time on 15 December 2011 at the Patriarchate in Belgrade and of decorating His Holiness with the Grand Collar of the Order of the Eagle of Georgia and the Seamless Tunic of Our Lord Jesus Christ.
I feel privileged to have received his wise words and blessings. He was a brave man who placed his duty to God and the Church before his personal safety—a man of God who will always be loved and remembered.
God bless His Holiness Irinej, Archbishop of Peć, Metropolitan of Belgrade and Karlovci, and Serbian Patriarch.
