His Royal Highness The Crown Prince Davit of Georgia, Head of the Royal House of Georgia, led congregants at the memorial Mass held to commemorate the tenth anniversary of the death of his beloved late father and Head of the Royal House. The service was held at the Royal Family Pantheon in Svetitskhoveli Cathedral, in Mtskheta, near Tbilisi.
His Royal Highness The Prince Giorgi Bagrationi-Mukhraneli was born in Rome to Their Royal Highnesses Prince Irakly and Princess Maria Antonietta on 22 February 1944, and died in Tbilisi on 16 January 2008. The funeral was held with all Royal Honours accorded by the Church and State on 20 January 2008.
His Royal Highness became the head of the Georgian Royal Family upon the death of his father on 30 October 1977. He was the Grand Master of the Order of the Eagle of Georgia and the Tunic of Our Lord Jesus Christ.
Prince Giorgi made his first visit to his ancestral homeland to bury his late grandfather’s remains in 1991. Having lived in exile in Spain for most of his life, he joyfully returned to Georgia with his sons and died in Tbilisi. His remains are interred with those of his Royal ancestors, the Kings of Georgia, in Svetitskhoveli Cathedral in Mtskheta.
